To all of those who think we need “regulation” and “stimulus” to build and grow business.

As Kris and I get ready for a weekend trip, we are rushing to pack the last few items we will need into the car for our quiet weekend getaway. Let’s see if you can guess where we are headed. It is one of the hottest and most inhospitable Deserts in the country, there are almost zero natural resources, the county Sheriff allows people to freely carry guns and there are about half as many laws on the books. Still can’t guess? Business regulation and taxes are almost non-existent, especially compared to home… more clues? Prostitution and Gambling are legal.

As Dr Walter Williams would say, “If you answered Las Vegas, move to the head of the class”! Have any of our busy body politicians in this station at the Federal level ever looked at how on earth the most dangerous and inhospitable desert in the country continues to be a haven for business, job seekers, freedom lovers, and visitors from around the world year in and year out?

The answer is brilliant in its simplicity, Freedom. Freedom is what has allowed the State of Nevada for years and years to freedom seekers from around the world, for either business and economic freedom, or just some social freedom. Want to make money, and are tired of the 11% State income tax on your earnings, AFTER you pay your corporate tax? Those problems go away 300 miles to the east! Are you an adult looking for some slot machines, or blackjack? 300 Miles West! Worried about your safety and that of your family? 300 Miles west, your right to protect yourself is recognized and protected!

So when you hear Statists speak about “helping” business, or “protecting” “us”, grab on to your wallet and hold on, because they have already taken you freedom.

  1. Sounds like what you want is Anarchy or at least that's what would result if everyone got to have a place where all their vices were catered to in the name of "freedom". There is a reason that place is 300 miles away and in the middle of the desert. So that its not in my back yard. And the only reason for that is that there are rules in place that keep it that way. So that I don't have to go out and picket and protest every time a new strip club or casino wants to move in next to my kids school. But even you understand that freedom doesn't mean everyone gets everything because at some point even you go "Whoa that's a little much for me thanks". So I guess the question becomes who decides? In a representative democracy the people decide what is acceptable, and if you want to change that, better go get a large enough block of voters....or move someplace where the majority of people are all for whatever it is you are all for.......like maybe the middle of an inhospitable desert.

Now let me go click on some banner adds to make you money.

  4. if it werent for logical and reasonable regulations we would be under the rule of the robber barrons of the 20th century. strong, smart regulation and a proggressive tax system post the depression led to the success of the 50's and 60's in the US. The undoing of the progressive tax system where those who make 350k a year pay more in taxes than millionares and the deregulating and crazy interest rates of the 80's led to our demise. No one group should bear the brunt for the other, but balance and a moderate tax system and realistic regulation lead to a stable a nd successful country. Allowing mega corps, bankers and the.1% control everything as they now do is the real problem. Freedom? Where did it go? To the hands of the elite and powerful and out of the hands of government. Read about the past before u discuss today and tomorrow before u listen to tired rhetoric from the right. good reading
